Buying A Puppy – FAQ

Q. We’ve chosen a puppy that we love, what now? Can we visit the puppy?

You can absolutely come visit your puppy! Now that 6wk vaccinations have been complete, we will be planning a ‘Park and Puppies’ play-dates for any interested parties (or those needing some puppy cuddles) on most Sundays, at a great little cafe local to us here in Daisy Hill. Location TBA, please watch our FB page for more updates! FB events are set up regularly now, so check it out!

Q. Do you require a holding fee to hold a pup for us, and when is the rest of the purchase amount due?

Yes, a $500 non-refundable holding fee is required to hold a puppy for more than 2-3 days. After 2-3 days, if a deposit has not been paid, the puppy will be available for any other interested parties. This can be paid via cash, or bank deposit, and a receipt/invoice will be provided via email.

The remainder of the cost of the pup is due before they are 8 weeks of age, with a preference for full payment by 7weeks. Payment plans are absolutely fine, as long as the final payment is no later than 10 weeks of age, and the puppy does not go home until full payment is received and cleared into bank account (hence the 7 weeks suggested time limit). Invoices will be supplied for all payments, and the final invoice will be printed and signed by us.

Q: Puppy Timeline, what has already been done for us when we take our new puppy home?

Worming: 2, 4, 6 weeks of age
Using Milpro Puppy Wormer
Treatment and control of:
– Roundworm (Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina)
– Whipworm (Trichuris vulpis)
– Hookworm (Ancylostoma caninum, Ancylostoma braziliense)
– Tapeworm- including hydatid tapeworms (Dipylidium caninum, Taenia spp., Echinococcus granulosus)
Prevention of:
– Heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis)

Parasite Preventatives:
Starting at 8 weeks, puppies will start their monthly parasite preventative of Nexgard Spectra.
Using Nexgard Spectra (suitable size tablet for weight). Nexgard is given monthly, year round and for life. Easy, generally palatable to the pups, and covers everything needed (minus an occasional tapewormer is recommended (twice a year), especially if living on property or with livestock around).

  • Rapidly kills fleas
  • Treats and controls ticks
  • Treats and controls mange and mites
  • Prevents heartworm disease
  • Treats and controls roundworm, hookworm and whipworm
  • Prevents flea tapeworm infestations

Q. What will be included in the take home puppy packs for each pup and new family?

We’ve decided that including an extensive puppy pack for the new owners is the best way to set up the pup and the new family for success! We’re still finalising our packs, but here is a starter list of what we’re preparing and plan to add into the packs.

  • Piece of vet bedding around 50x60cm. This will have been used in the whelping box (and washed regularly of course!) since birth, and each puppy will get a piece to go home with, so they have the smell of ‘family’ on it and can help them settle into sleeping at night, or even as a mat for crate training!
  • If vaccination (10wks and 14wks) is done at our preffered vet, Curtis St Vets $the@ Pimpama, we are happy to cover the cost of titre testing 1 month post 14wk vaccinations to ensure positive antibodies against Distember, Hepatitis and Parvo.
  • One dose of Nexgard Spectra for the first month at home.
  • One small bag of Ivory Coat Puppy Large Breed.
  • Puppy toys (various), puppy blanket
  • Puppy’s Pedigree (assuming DNA testing and DogsQLD come through quickly with results and pedigree. If not available on collection, all owners will be kept up to date weekly on the progress of Pedigrees. All will be supplied as ‘mains’ (allowance for breeding) unless ‘limited’ is requested for any reason.
  • DNA testing with Parentage Confirmation, with full breed profiles added at buyers request at any time. These cover all breed specific diseases as well as colour genetics. This report will be printed in full and supplied to the new owner. DNA profiles can be transferred to the new owner if they have an Orivet account.
  • Printout of Extended Breed Profile.
  • Stickers and decals, and a tote bag
  • Collar and lead for each puppy
  • Useful information about crate training, local puppy schools and trainers, business cards
  • Possibly more to come!…
